Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki translated means
“Universal Life Force”
and this is exactly what it is. It is limitless and abundant, the
energy is
everywhere. It is the most popular and well known hands on healing
technique in
use today. For those who are initiated into Reiki it can become very
much part
of their life. Where it is extremely helpful in health problems aiding
orthodox
medicine techniques as well as using Reiki on its own, it can actually
be
applied to all areas of your life e.g. cooking, doing projects or
housework.
Its uses are limitless.
Reiki combines the utilisation
of the life
force that is present in all living things – “ki”-
with the warmth,
reassurances, and healing power of touch. Although for those who do not
like
touch, Reiki can still be given and some say it can be even more
profound, but
this really depends on the case. When a person is receiving Reiki the
body and
energy field will self direct and self regulate the amount of energy
that it
receives. In other words, where the energy is needed in the body it
will flow.
Healing powers of Reiki… well really it is the healing power of
the person
receiving. Reiki is not so much the healing technique but it kick
starts the
body into healing itself and supports it in doing so from all aspects
emotional, mentally, physically and spiritually. Simply put, Reiki
healing is
the transmission of energy through the practitioner to the client in
order to
heal, restore and renew body, mind, and spirit.
What
Reiki is not:
A Reiki Session
Usually it is suggested that one
has up to 4
sessions in quick succession. This can be on each day or one weekly. A
session
lasts about an hour, becoming faster as things change and improve. A
person
lies fully clothed on a couch while the therapist works around the
person,
depending on the modality of Reiki from the top down or vice versa.
This is now
changing as people are becoming more familiar with the flow of the
energy and
follow it’s direction and what course it requires to flow on that
day for that
person. The Reiki practitioner acts as a channel for the healing
energy, she/he
receives it and then transmits it through their hands which they
respectfully
and gently place upon the body in a series of configurations.
What to expect
For the majority of people it is
pure
relaxation and bliss. Some may feel
coolness or heat from the facilitators hands. Some may feel emotional,
they may
laugh or cry. It is important if somebody has an emotional release that
they
continue with Reiki session to move it on faster and get to a better
space.

Learning Reiki
Carmel has been initiated into
Usui,
Tibetan and
Tera Maiâ Reiki. She hopes to be
teaching
Reiki again by Spring 2006. Anyone can learn Reiki. She initiated her
two
children (10 and 8) two years ago and they find it a great tool to work
on
themselves if they fall or are scared. They are also attuned to IET and they know the difference in the vibration and
recognise which of the energies their
bodies need most at any time. Carmel finds
that Reiki and IET together are a
fantastic combination and can give so much relief for so many
conditions
safely.
